The Wildlife Experience
The Elephant Coast, with its rich diversity of wildlife, has many internationally renowned game reserves and parks and, while they range in size, they all provide the refuge necessary to support our region's wildlife and bird populations which have inhabited the area for thousands of years.
The area is home to a number of endangered animals such as the African Wild Dog and both the White and Black Rhino. Both Rhino species have been saved from extinction through the conservation intervention of the staff at the Hluhluwe-Imfolosi Game Reserve which now has the largest Black Rhino and White Rhino populations in the world.
Although the
Big 5
are often the major attraction to visitors to our game reserves, the reserves are also home to many other fascinating animals such as the Cheetah, Spotted Hyaena, Giraffe, Burchell's Zebra and Wildebeest.
The
Hluhluwe-Imfolosi Game Reserve,
which is 20 minutes from Malala, is the oldest game reserve in Africa having been proclaimed in 1895.
Mkhuze Game Reserve,
which is 45 minutes from Malala, was proclaimed in 1912 and is renowned as a mecca for bird-watchers.
